Electronic cigarettes and vapes are a relatively new subject of health study because they took the market in the last ten years or so. As more research grew, public opinion has swayed back and forth about the findings of its effect on health. Although results aren’t concise about its long term health’s impact, e-cigs sales are growing widespread on the market. So as a consumer, here are some of the information about e-cigs and vapes that will keep you informed.

As users begin to believe that e-cigs are the best alternative to traditional cigarettes and an overall healthier choice, but take note on recent studies that have begun to explore its long-term effects on health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nicotine is the addictive component of tobacco but is not itself a carcinogenic. The real damage of smoking cigarettes is from poisonous additives and CO fumes. Now with e-cigs hitting the market like storm and being relatively new on the market, WHO has released multiple warning reports in the last five years of its health effects and urged governments to regulate the products. One of the findings is a 2014 report warned of possible respiratory irritation caused by exposure to propylene glycol, one of the main ingredients contained inside the liquid of e-cigs and vapes. Another key ingredient, aerosols, contains metals that are known to damage the heart and lungs.

Currently, e-cigs and vapes are shown to be less harmful than actual cigarettes, due to the removal of poisonous additives such as tar and CO emissions. However, users should be aware of its effect from other added chemicals in the liquid ingredients.

Secondly, keep your nicotine consumption low. Vapes allow you to select liquid and its nicotine level. Keep a healthy mindset by purchasing a lower amount of nicotine each time to progress in your addiction goals.

The reality is, like many new products that hit the market, you need to keep up with the research on your own. We keep on similar pattern how mass industries take on new market without proper research and its side effects on health. We, the consumers, have to always be one step ahead of the industry.
